Steve Brooker led a Bristol City fightback which brought them a point and could have given them more in a relegation battle at Bloomfield Road.
The City skipper grabbed a 21st-minute equaliser and had a series of chances to earn Gary Johnson's side a much needed three points.
Blackpool, featuring new signing Neil Wood in midfield, came out of the traps quickly and took the lead after less than five minutes when striker John Murphy pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area and took it around keeper Adriano Basso before slotting home from close range.
It was a first goal in 10 games for the big man although Bristol defender Matt Heywood should have cleared his lines.
There was a near miss for the home side barely a minute later when winger Ian Morris cut in and took a right-footed shot from the edge of the area which Basso did well to turn over the bar.
And there was a moment of quality from Wood whose disguised pass put Murphy in behind the defence, but Basso got down well to deny him a second goal.
At the other end young winger David Cotterill went close with an angled shot which beat keeper Lee Jones and the post.
The equaliser, when it came, was a well-worked effort with Bradley Orr's free-kick pinged into the box pinball style for Brooker to score from close range.
Bristol dominated from that point onwards and had a series of chances after the break, with Brooker forcing a great save from Lee Jones just five minutes after half-time, and veteran Jason Wilcox getting his foot in to deny the big striker as he was sprinting through on goal.
The tiring Wood was replaced on 65 minutes by another debut midfielder, his former Manchester United youth team colleague David Fox, but he had little chance to make an impact in the closing stages.
