Tony Dinning has finally left Wigan Athletic to join City in a 2½ year deal. The midfielder has recently made 6 appearances for Brian Tinnion's side whilst on loan at Ashton Gate and yesterday completed his move with Wigan allowing him to leave on a free transfer.His loan spell had been the fifth during his three year stint at the JJB Stadium after previous deals with Ipswich Town, Blackpool, Walsall and Stoke City. Bristol City had beat two other League One sides to his signature with South Yorkshire sides Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley also interested in taking the former Stockport County and Wolves midfielder on loan. Dinning had gone a full 12 months since his last outing for Paul Jewell's side with his 76th minute substitution last season at Walsall marking the beginning of the end at Wigan for the 29-year-old. First going out on loan with Stoke City at the end of the 2001/2002 season, he was also borrowed by Walsall and Blackpool last season and more recently spent 2 months with Ipswich Town where he had hoped to secure a permanent deal but this failed to materialise.
