The City midfielder sustained a hamstring injury in the first half of the 1-0 defeat at The Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday and is expected to be sidelined for at least three weeks.
"Our medical staff sent Ivan for a scan and it's shown up a strain," City manager Gary Johnson told the club's official website.
"Everyone's really disappointed for Ivan, especially as he had only just got back in the team.
"It's likely he'll be out for around three weeks. We'll give him all the time needed for recovery."
