Bristol City defender Christian Ribeiro says his call-up to the full Wales squad for the matches against Bulgaria and Switzerland was unexpected. The 20-year-old full-back has been a regular for Wales at youth level but has just one senior cap, earned against Croatia in May.
"I was a little bit surprised, especially in my position," Ribeiro told BBC Radio Bristol.
"There are a couple of Premiership players who play at right back."
Ribeiro continued: "It's great to be involved with them and have a good reputation with the manager and hopefully he sees me competing with those good players."
The Neath-born player's City career has been thwarted by injury, including a year out after damaging his cruciate knee ligaments.
But Ribeiro has started the last three Championship matches and impressed manager Keith Millen.
"All I can do is keep playing games for Bristol City and hopefully that'll take care of itself with Wales," he said.
