O'Driscoll regrets slow start

ON the back of a relatively comfortable defeat by Bristol City, Doncaster Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll praised ex-Rover Michael McIndoe for his performance, but blamed his sides slow start for condemming them to victory.

The away side, looking to extend a poor recent run of form for their hosts, started well but conceeded a penalty just before half time which Michael McIndoe dispatched with confidence against his old side. In the second half the Robins smashed in three more goals and looked assured throughout.

Rovers were able to reply with a goal from Richie Wellens which made it 3-1 but another striker from McIndoe made it 4-1 and secured City's largest ever victory margin in the Championship and enabled them to bounce back from defeat to Birmingham instantly.

Despite praising his side grit and determination up until the point they conceeded the first goal, O'Driscoll felt that Rovers needed to make more of their chances,

"We made a slow start but then weathered the storm and finished the first half on top.

"Once we conceded the first goal it was always going to be an uphill battle but we stuck to our guns and kept playing our style of football."

The Irishman also admitted that the score didn't reflect the positive way which his team played,

"We may not have done enough to win the game but we could certainly have made the scoreline a bit closer."
