"Gary Johnson has done us a favour to let us have Frankie Artus because we are hardly paying anything for him," Allen told the official Cheltenham Town website.
"He is a good passer of the ball, I saw him play when he was on loan at Brentford and he impressed me then.
"I've kept an eye on him since then and managed to sort out the loan on Sunday.
"He's not played many first team games anywhere but he's a good lad and has plenty about him and we'll see if he can do the sort of job Ian Westlake did for us."
