"We don't want to hang about and leave it until the last match - we want to get the points as soon as possible. I thought the game underlined the will to win there is in this team.
"We thought we might have caught Doncaster at the right time with them playing in the Johnstones Paint Trophy final next weekend but they were focussed on this one and gave us a hard battle."
Doncaster manager Sean O'Driscoll was devastated to watch McCombe head City's winner in the 88th minute and admitted his side's promotion chances are all but gone.
"I would imagine our chance of a play-off place has just about gone but that doesn't mean the rest of the season is unimportant," said O'Driscoll.
"It's vital that we carry on with the progress we have been making and finish as high up the table as possible. On another day we might have won it but we are just not getting the rub of the green at the moment.
"I thought it was a good game of football, full of commitment from both sides, and there was nothing really in it until they pinched a goal at the end."
