Bristol City defender Lewin Nyatanga will be out of action for at least six weeks after picking up a knee injury against Blackpool at the weekend. The 21-year-old was stretchered off in the pre-season friendly on Saturday and a scan has revealed torn ligaments.
City physio Nick Dawes said: "Our worst fears of a cartilage injury have been put to bed.
"But there is a ligament tear and that means he will be out for six to eight weeks," he added.
This latest injury adds to a long list absentees for City's opening game against Millwall on Saturday.
Fellow defenders Louis Carey, new signing Nicky Hunt, Christian Ribeiro and James Wilson are all missing.
In addition last season's top scorer Nicky Maynard is out along with fellow striker Danny Haynes and midfielder Kalifa Cisse.
